146.43 FM simplex net had 8 check-ins

   Our 8 check-ins tonight (from 8-8:30pm) were:
   KC9PQF, K9FI, WD9ITJ, KC9LFJ, KC9KPV, W9GA, WB9TFH all EN53.   Plus KB5ZJU EN63.
Had a slow start, but by 8:15, we had more stopping by.

KC9LFJ is Jeff out in Mayville, Dodge Co.   He has just gotten on 2m SSB with a Kenwood TR 9000 and a Cushcraft 10el twist beam (10 el horizontal and 10 el vertical on the same boom).   We were eager to hear how KC9LFJ sounded on SSB, so several of us QSY’d to 144.200 and did some testing from about 8:40-9:00pm.    Jeff’s 45w got out to my QTH and Milwaukee, even though he’s in a bit of a hole.   We also suspect a relay that switches his vertical elements to horizontal isn’t functioning properly, because he wasn’t any stronger when he went horizontal to work us SSB’ers on the same polarity.
But it’s always good news to have another signal on 144 SSB, so congrats to KC9LFJ in Dodge County.
